Shanelle Rodrigues is a teacher, pianist and lifelong learner. Despite completing her Master’s degree in Economics, she decided to pursue her passion for music and began piano teaching as a profession. In 2013, she completed her Grade 8 certification in piano from Trinity College London and in 2018, she completed her ATCL in Instrumental Teaching from the same board. In 2021/22 Shanelle completed her Master of Arts: The Teaching Musician – a postgraduate music education degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in music and dance, U.K. Her dissertation focused on exploring strategies for success as students prepared for digitally recorded examinations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shanelle was a senior member of the teaching faculty at Furtados School of Music (FSM). Now she focuses on tutoring students of all ages at her own studio – ‘Shanelle’s Piano Studio’ in Colaba, Mumbai. Along with teaching, Shanelle enjoys her role as an accompanist to various students appearing for examinations or concerts.
She is an active piano performer and encourages her students to also improve their performance experience. She believes music can play an important role during a child’s formative years and encourages all-round musicianship. It is her constant endeavour to improve her music training and is a member of a community of piano teachers – ‘Curious Piano Teachers’, based in the U.K. She is currently pursing formal training under the tutelage of Concert pianist Ms. Tatyana Dichenko from Russia.
Additionally, Shanelle is the overseas representative for International Academies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, U.K. where she helps promote music education programmes in India. She has also collaborated with Offset Education to launch a music education podcast called ‘Out of the Box’, that explores and dissects music education trends in India. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, trekking, painting and playing her second instrument, the violin.
